Or Is It Too Little, Too Late?

So after a couple hundred years of unprovoked wars, broken treaties, and out-and-out genocide, the Senate is finally prepared to say "my bad." Kudos to Sen. Brownback (R-KS) for bringing this up. (This will likely be the only time I will ever congratulate Sam Brownback for anything, so take note.) Now all we need to do is get Congress to recognize the Anishinabe discovery of Italy...

In a depressing display of my own ignorance, I never even realized we'd illegally contributed to the coup in the Kingdom of Hawai'i, let alone that we'd apologized for it later.

I'm having one of those moments where I realize that I know almost nothing about something that should have struck me as intriguing... I always just thought about Hawaii as another state, but it is quite odd that we have one state, out in what is almost literally the middle of nowhere, which is fundamentally different in huge ways from the rest of the 48/49.

There we go, I just read the Wikipedia article on Hawaii and while I'm obviously no expert, I probably know more about it now than, say, Nebraska.

By the way, I like the BNL reference.
