To be perfectly honest, Henning doesn't really make the case (he just states the concept), but there might be more to this than you'd initially think. Anyone else ever read Weber's The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism? Check it out. If the protestant ethic is subsiding, maybe so is the capitalist restraint he's writing about.
