Diplomacy? What's That?

Seems like North Korea has agreed to disarm in exchange for economic benefits. If NK follows through with this deal, it will be come the second nation (after South Africa) to voluntarily give up its nuclear ambitions. Given the insanity of North Korea's leadership, if NK actually holds up its end of the bargain, this is nothing short of remarkable.

Guess this whole "diplomacy" thing actually works. I suppose it would be too much to ask that we try it with Iran and Syria...

You forgot Libya. They disarmed, too.

Or...at least they ended their nuclear program. Not sure they actually had nuclear arms.

The "incentive for nuke disarmament" has been tried with N Korea before, under the Clinton administration, and it failed then.

Ben has a point about Libya. And Ben, did you see my reply about Arabs and civil rights/inclusiveness? You'd asked for my opinion...

Yeah, I don't think Libya ever developed a nuke, but good point. Anyone heard from Qaddafi lately? He hasn't been in the news in a while. Which is odd.

Michael - the reason I'm more hopeful for this disarmament is that China and Russia are closer to the action. That'll give the deal a little bit more toothiness.
